Tourmaline
Tourmaline is a crystalline silicate mineral group in which boron is compounded with elements such as aluminium, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium.
Colors It Comes In - Black, Green, Pink, Blue, Red, White, Yellow, Purple, Brown, Orange, Grey
Fracture Pattern - uneven, small, conchoidal, or scattered
Shape - Six-member ring cyclosilicate having a trigonal crystal system. It occurs as long, slender to thick prismatic and columnar crystals that are usually triangular in cross-section, often with curved striated faces. Euhedral ranging from stubby columnar crystals to acicular crystals.
Luster - Vitreous to subresinous
Texture - smooth, plastic like
Where It Can Be Found - Tourmaline can be found all over the world, but most is mined in Brazil and Africa. It can also be sourced in Afghanistan and nearby regions, and there are even some scattered mines in the U.S. In Africa it is mined in Mozambique, Zambia, Namibia, Madagascar and Nigeria.
